Privacy Policy

"Auto Tab Grouper" ("the extension") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it is handled.

Data we access

The extension accesses the following information solely to perform its core function — automatically moving tabs into your existing tab groups:

• Tab URLs (domain only) — The extension extracts the domain (e.g. github.com) from the URLs of tabs you open, in order to match them against your tab groups and rules. The full URL is never stored or transmitted; only the hostname is used in memory for matching.
• Tab group information — Titles and IDs of your existing tab groups, used to find a matching group.
• Your configuration — Custom rules and learned domain-to-group mappings you create, the enable/disable toggle state, and a count of auto-grouped tabs.

How data is stored

All data is stored locally on your device using chrome.storage.local. Nothing is ever sent to any server. There is no backend, no analytics, no telemetry, and no third-party tracking.

Permissions and why they are needed

• tabs — To read a tab's URL (for domain extraction) and to move tabs into groups.
• tabGroups — To query your existing tab groups and match tabs to them. The extension never creates new tab groups.
• storage — To save your rules, learned mappings, and settings locally on your device.

Data sharing

The extension does not share, sell, or transfer any data to any third party.

Data retention & deletion

All stored data persists only in your local browser profile. Uninstalling the extension removes all associated data. You can also inspect or clear it at any time via Chrome → Extensions → the extension's storage.

Children's privacy

The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

Any changes will be posted on this page.
